Zoos and behaviour change

A recent Science Show on ABC Radio National featured the Adelaide Zoo which has recently undergone a major redevelopment. The zoo is promoting an environmental message to visitors to emphasise how our lifestyles and consumption patterns affect animals and their habitats. For example, mining in Africa for minerals that are used in mobile phones results in the destruction of habitat for primates and threatens their survival. The newly opened Envirodome at the zoo offers interactive ecological games and suggests practical ways to lighten our environmental footprint.
