Fossil Fuel

By Andrew Tidswell, Blackwood Sustainable Communities Group

There are plenty of banks that continue to fund fossil fuel industries – but there are also many that don’t. Thanks to Market Forces, an affiliate project of Friends of the Earth Australia and a member of the BankTrack international network, for informing us so that we can take action.

The following banks provide funds to fossil fuel companies including the amount they have loaned since 2016:

  • AMP – $530m
  • ANZ – $10,843m
  • Commonwealth Bank – $12,059m (includes Bankwest)
  • NAB – $7274m (includes UBank)
  • Westpac – $5396m (includes BankSA, St George & Bank of Melbourne)
  • Macquarie Bank – $5026m

The following do not fund fossil fuel companies:

  • Adelaide Bank
  • Bank Australia
  • Bendigo Bank
  • Beyond Bank
  • all credit unions
