Essential Edibles Christmas Breakfast and Food Swap: Sunday 6 December
Between 9 and 10 am on the first Sunday of every month, a group of locals gathers at Joslin Reserve bearing all kinds of homegrown produce, eggs, preserves, cuttings, seeds and seedlings, to participate in Essential Edibles Food Swap.
Founded in late 2010 as an initiative of the Joslin group of Sustainable Communities SA, Essential Edibles is a great way to meet other backyard food growers, learn a gardening tip or two, and gain access to wider range of produce than you can grow yourself.
No cash changes hands – it is all about sharing, a way to reconnect with community and mostly about generosity.
You don’t HAVE to have anything to swap or share, there is always enough to go around. We want to reduce food miles, food waste and fuel use and promote social networks within our ever-growing and sometimes isolating community. So feel free to just come along for a chat and to soak up the atmosphere.
The annual Essential Edibles end-of-year breakfast barbecue and final food swap for 2015 will be held on Sunday 6 December.
Where: Joslin Reserve, 100 Third Ave (we’ll gather at one of the green tables near the BBQ/tennis courts – you’ll know us by our produce!)
When: Sunday 6 December
Time: From 9am. The food swap takes place at 10 sharp.
Please bring a plate of something Christmassy or seasonal to share, or something to contribute to our shared breakfast BBQ. Friends and family are very welcome to attend, and first-timers are especially welcome.
