In the report summarising the findings of last year’s consultation process for the South Australian Strategic Plan is the following statement:
A key aspiration from the 2010 consultation that was not strongly identified four years ago was the desire to eat fresh, healthy food that has been grown at home or obtained from local community gardens. The motivation appeared to be two-pronged: people want to do their bit for local sustainability by finding alternatives to interstate and overseas imports; and they also want to eat healthy foods.
Let’s hope this is reflected in the updated Strategic Plan later this year! And some Local Government Councils are beginning to consider food security. Is yours? Let’s all find out how our Council is planning for food security.
