Adopt A Spot Scheme
Adopt a Spot is a volunteer community group that aims to minimise waste entering the ocean through regular collection and removal of debris. Groups adopt an area where they regularly undertake rubbish pick-ups that are recorded and photographed for its Facebook page.
Up to the end of May 2020 Adopt a Spot, which currently looks after over 130 adopted spots around South Australia, has contributed 1400 volunteer hours and collected 45,700 cigarette butts and an estimated 2000kg of waste.
Members also regularly undertake talks at schools and other community groups. They are developing an education kit for schools.
