Churchill Greening

Local residents have formed the ‘Churchill Greening’ community group to progress the greening of the Churchill Pocket Park. During construction of the ‘Ovingham Level Crossing Removal Project’, local residents lobbied for the surplus land to be used as community garden space as a hub to grow community & belonging. The State Government responded by announcing three pocket parks to be developed as community open space: Drayton Street and Chief Street Pocket Parks in Charles Sturt Council and Churchill Road Pocket Park in Prospect Council area. Churchill Pocket Park is located near the Ovingham Railway Station (Devonport Terrace) and Churchill Road, Ovingham just north of the intersection.

Churchill Greening members regularly meet at Churchill Pocket Park to progress the park, informed by community preferences from both sides of the railway line. The City of Prospect will oversee the management of this space with Churchill Greening as the organising group to promote and sustain the Churchill Pocket Park.

The Churchill Pocket Park is founded on the idea that people from all walks of life, cultural & socio-economic backgrounds, ages, genders and abilities are key to the ongoing success of this pocket park.
