Pasadena and St Marys Action Group
The Pasadena and St Marys Action Group (PASMAG) is a community action group that welcomes anyone who lives, works, studies or plays in Pasadena or St Marys.
Our group was formed in April 2022 after a few neighbours found common interests in the environment and community building.
We wanted “to achieve positive outcomes for our community by caring for our local flora, fauna and people.” It was at the time, and still is, very important for our group to consider and action projects and positive events that bring people together.
It was also important that our group had some clear geographical boundaries, so we could focus on getting to know each other and enjoy the benefits of our actions in our immediate area.
We are currently working together to encourage residents to landscape their verges, connecting through just for fun social events, community conversations about local topics, crafting sessions and sharing plants and produce.
We are based at the Pasadena Community Centre, 47 Adelaide Terrace, Pasadena. We meet there once a month on the first Thursday of each month, 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm, to plan events and discuss ideas and local issues.
Currently, most of our members also connect on Facebook, in the ‘Pasadena and St Marys Action Group for members’ where we have the ability to engage with over 200 people who live, work, study or play in the area. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3094100320827944/
Our action group is about ‘doing’ as much as possible, and there are no formal positions or a committee other than our social media coordinator Jody and our newsletter editor Barbara. This means we rarely get bogged down by long committee-style meetings and instead have the flexibility for members to participate in the group as they like. Projects and events are led by the people with the time, energy and interest to initiate and coordinate them. We also have a reliable group of other people who enjoy volunteering with project leaders.
